Process

Abby Haddican is a multidisciplinary designer specializing in branding, packaging, and type design.

I design distinctive brand identities, packaging, typography, and visual systems to help emerging and established brands stand out in competitive markets. I focus on high-impact, foundational tools that can be reused, remixed, and reinterpreted for years to come.

Every project is unique, but my process typically includes the following phases.

Phase 1: Discovery

First, we get oriented.

We’ll start by evaluating your business, audience, competition, goals, and what’s already working—or not working. Through conversations, research, and visual exercises, we’ll identify opportunities, clarify objectives, and ensure that we’re in sync.

Phase 2: Ideation

THEN, we EXPLORE.

This is where ideas start taking shape. I typically explore a handful of distinct creative directions—different ways the brand could look, feel, and communicate.

Depending on the project, those ideas might come to life through identity, packaging, typography, color, imagery, illustration, or other key applications. I present concepts in context so you can see how each direction can grow into a larger system.

Phase 3: Refinement

Next, we make the GOOD ideas even better.

Once you’ve selected a direction, we’ll develop it collaboratively. I’ll strengthen what’s working, solve anything that isn’t, and expand the system as we go. This phase is where a concept becomes a system—a set of visual tools cohesive enough to instantly identify your brand and flexible enough to grow and adapt over time.

Phase 4: Handoff

Finally, we make it real and prepare you for success.

Once the work is approved, I’ll organize and prepare the final assets you need to put it into the world. Depending on the scope, that might include logo files, brand guidelines, production-ready packaging artwork, typography and color specifications, templates, imagery, or other supporting assets.

For packaging and production projects, I can also work with your vendors during the initial rollout to help make sure the finished product stays true to the design.

You’ll leave with a comprehensive, practical toolkit tailored to the needs of your team.

And also: Friends forever!

let’s keep a good thing going.

Many of my client relationships span years, and have continued well beyond the initial project. I'm always happy to collaborate on new products, brand extensions, campaigns, and other creative opportunities as they arise.

As an independent designer, I'm best suited for high impact, project-based engagements rather than ongoing day-to-day design or production support.
